World Class Antique Chest My client Ebay member "condor361".... had this to say after buying a 1920's cedar chest I restored...."Beyond perfect service" & "The chest is really, really great, a job well done" PINE WOOD IMMIGRANT CHEST/TRUNK I restored this beautiful primitive chest to museum quality Circa 1795-1840 This will look great anywhere you decide to place it, I think at the foot of a bed, behind a couch, as a coffee table in front of a couch, near a fireplace, in an entryway or in a living room are some great choices. I guarantee it will forever get rave reviews from all who lay eyes upon it, no doubt a conversation piece!! Original hand forged iron hinges with hand forged rose head iron nails Original hand forged iron handles on each end with hand forged rose head nails, these handles are rock solid & swivel nicely when you need to lift the trunk! Lock mechanism has Swedish makers mark on the hidden side(see photo of lock & key)the lock was made in the town of Eskilstuna, Sweden & Eskilstuna was know for their iron works, makers of firearms & precision tools & instruments just like this chest lock. Chest lock has makers Marks “G.A. Miller” “Eskilstuna”(see photo) the name on the chest all point to it being from Sweden and this immigrant made their life voyage to Pennsylvania, USA. The lock works perfectly with the hand restored period iron key! Nothing beats sound of the click of a 200 year old opening with a working key! I love restoring the locks & keys in my restorations!! This chest has hand forged "rose head" wrought iron nails, they are original to the chest.....there are some new reproduction rose head nails I used to secure the inside straps of the handles and the spear latch inside the lid. Some areas screws were added over the years. The character marks and graining of the pine wood which was stained with a gray stain. I cleaned & sealed the chest with hand restored varnish, the result is so beautiful!! The rustic knots, dark spots, splits. nicks, dings and imperfections & world class patina give it tremendous beauty & historical charm!! This chest is at least 200 years old, that means the solid pine wood planks are actually 400 years old. The front owners name & destination are painted on & remain in great condition….”America” “K. Klinga Ridgway,Pa.” I hand restored the finish including the backside of the chest using many coats of hand rubbed varnish to preserve, protect & showcase the chest. The beautiful rich colors are 100% natural & sealed with the varnish! There is age related shrinkage gaps in the floor of the chest, I made no attempt to restore them, they are strong, solid...you can easily see the original hand made dowel pegs that join them together I restored the entire chest to museum quality respecting its history, character, structure, integrity and primitive beauty consistent with any fine antique Historical fact: this chest had some small fire at sometime in its life, the front right hand corner has evidence of a fire with charred & blackened wood inside the floor board, there was also damage which necessitated me replacing /restoring a piece of wood in the same front right lower corner. One can only wonder what caused the fire!! Of course this chest features hand cut dovetail joinery at all 4 corners hidden by the tin corners & various strapping details. Acquire this chest & join my worldwide clients who love historic antiques, fine craftsmanship & artistic restoration by a master craftsman, you will love this wonderful treasure, feel free to read all of my client feedback!
