Description: S. Kind and Sons was a jewelry store started in 1872 as S. Kind & Co. by Samuel Kind, a Jewish Bohemian immigrant. The firm first opened on Callowhill Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It soon moved to 241 Chestnut Street. There Samuel Kind sold various kinds of jewelry including rings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and personal accessories, such as fancy fans, dresser sets with hand mirror, comb and brush, thimbles and other gold sewing tools. For the men there were solid gold cigarette cases and match boxes, pocket knives, belt buckles, trophies. Solid gold novelties included pipe cleaning tools, combs, glasses cases, glasses, fountain pens. For the household, clocks, silverware, salt cellars and silver serving pieces, candlesticks and so much more were carried in their jewelry store. This 1917 Catalogue features every item sold in the store in black and white pictures. The print is quite tiny so it's possible the customer would have to purchase a pair of the magnifying glasses to be able to read the catalogue...lol. There is more history below if you are interested. We are offering this piece of history for $90 with free shipping. History continued: The store moved a couple more times before the end of the 19th century, but it eventually took up residence back on Chestnut Street. The store stock has increased to include silver-plated mementos and gifts. In the early twentieth century, Kind's three sons, Frank, Oscar, and Philip were all brought into the business in various capacities. The firm then became known as S. Kind and Sons. During this same time, Kind acquired a diamond-importing business, which further increased his selling capacity. His store sold everything from rings, pins, and necklaces, to watches, perfume bottle, and silverware. During the 1930s, the business expanded their locations.Due to changes in shopping habits and gift preferences, the Kind family chose to close its Philadelphia store in 1964 with the other store locations eventually following suit. The work of the Kind family still exists in the spirit and work of New York-based jewelers, S. Kind & Co., which was founded in part by Samuel Kind's great-great-great grandson. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seller's Notes: Books, DVDs, VHS, CDs, Cassettes are sent USPS Media Mail to save $$.
