Description: Attention Gun Enthusiasts, Historians and Collectors! Here is your chance to own a book that is signed by a leading figure in the production of guns for WWI and WWII!! You are bidding on a vintage hardcover book with original dustjacket titled The First Winchester - The Story of the 1866 Repeating Rifle. By John E. Parsons. Published by William Morrow and Company, 1955. This is the collectible First Printing of the First Edition. The book is dual signed! It is signed by the author, John E Parsons on the first blank page and it is inscribed to well-known gun collector and author of gun books, Ray Riling. There is also a sticker on that page showing the the book was given "Compliments of Winchester - Western Division as a memento of the September 1955 meeting of the American Society of Arms Collectors". More importantly, the book is also signed by Edwin Pugsley. Edwin Pugsley was one of the prime movers behind the scenes in the production of the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). He was CEO of Winchester and attended to the details of production and experimental firearms. Not much has been written about him except in the book on the BAR, Rock in a Hard Place. In it is described how Mr. Pugsley took the only prototype that Colt had to Winchester to make production drawings over a single weekend. Only a man of Pugsley’s stature could have pulled an entire engineering staff together to accomplish such a massive and precise undertaking. Edwin had joined the staff as an engineer in 1911 and rose through the ranks to eventually become president and CEO of Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In addition, the U.S. M1 carbine was designed at Winchester by an eight-man team that included Edwin Pugsley. More M1 carbines were manufactured by Winchester and other firms than any other U.S. small arm of World War II. The book is in near-fine condition. Has bookplate of Ray Riling, noted author and collector. The original unclipped dustjacket shows some a little wear but remains in very good condition. A fantastic addition to your library!!! Very collectible! Would make a terrific addition to a collection. (Inventory: S-164) Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
