American Artist Max Weber Writes About the Birth of His Daughter

Description: This charming letter to friends humorously announces the birth of Weber's second child. He writes in full: "Dear Leonard and Adah:- I am pleased to inform you that Frances gave birth to a lovely baby-girl last Friday at her mother's home in Trenton. The child-infant was so eager to see the light that she did not wait for the leadership of a scientist-doctor, who came, however, a half hour too late for him to officiate as "deliverer". Only the menial duties were left to him. And the kiddy was so clever as to dodge the "portals" of the confinement hospital. She doesn't believe in ordinary precincts or banal environment. An individualist from the first moment. And strange isn't it, that this little one was born on the very day and hour her brother was born -- four years ago. With best wishes to you from Frances and myself. I am with love to you both Max / Frances and baby are doing well." Max Weber (1881-1961) studied and/or associated with a host of 20th century's major artists--beginning with Arthur Wesley Dow in the U.S. and, in Paris, Henri Matisse, Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, etc. He is widely credited with introducing Cubism to America. This autograph letter signed is written on an 11" x 8" sheet of stationery imprinted: "Max Weber Nassau Haven Long Island". Condition: Mailing fold lines, perimeter spots/soil. Generally good condition, signed "Max", and written in his distinctive "artistic" hand. Shipping Notes: We ship same day via USPS upon receipt of payment before 3 PM.
