Description: Rare Large Bronze "American Military Assistance Staff, Yugoslavia" Military Service Medal 1956-1958. During the Cold War following the end of WW2, Yugoslavia was one of the countries that were leaning toward the Soviet Bloc, but were not allied with Russia, they were trying to remain independent under its leader Josip Tito. Therefore American presence was necessary, so that the U.S. could assist the country with American Foreign Aid, so they would not go Communist. I suspect also, that the assistance organization was gathering intelligence, or an under cover C.I.A. group spying on the Eastern Bloc Nations and Russia, for the U.S. The medal is Bronze, 73 mm in diameter, engraved on the back "Lt. Col. William C. Brannon, 1956-1958", and is quite heavy. It is in very fine condition.
