Description: Antique 1860’s Ezra Durand Hammered dulcimer In Table Format. FOR SALE: An 1860’s Ezra Durand Hammered dulcimer in table format. Currently in New York City, and cannot be shipped. An identical dulcimer to this, also from the same workshop is held in the Metropolitan Museum of art. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/503371 Ezra Durand was a prolific Dulcimer builder in Connecticut, Michigan, and unfortunately got into trouble with the law and fled to Oregon where he built reed organs. Ezra Durand also published the first dulcimer treatise in North America and would have originally been sold with this instrument. The instrument has been restored and completely restrung, and includes original candleholders, spare strings (enough to last several lifetimes) and a 19th century tuning hammer (not originally part of the instrument). The legs are detachable for easier transport. My favorite detail is the music stand, which is embellished with original gold paint. The instrument sounds incredible. It’s deep bass register and atmospheric treble bridge is unlike anything I’ve heard. The bass bridge is on the left side, which takes little time to get used to. Two repaired soundboard cracks and a few chips in the rosewood veneer but other than that, in lovely condition. Asking: $3,000. Feel free to send me a message.
