Description: Up for sale is a professionally restored vintage Apple Macintosh II computer with rare upgrades. All features of the computer are functional and work as intended. Firstly, the computer features a 1.44MB FDHD upgrade kit, which includes replacement ROMs and floppy controller IC (SWIM chip), allowing it to read and write 1.44MB floppy disks. Secondly, the computer features an optional 68851 paged memory management unit (MMU), which is required for running A/UX and for addressing more than 8MB of memory. Thirdly, the computer features a 68882 floating point unit (FPU), which replaces the original, slower 68881. A/UX, Apple's lesser-known 1990's Unix-based operating system, has been installed on the hard drive. The computer runs version 2.0.1. Although 2.0.1 is not the latest version compatible with the Macintosh II, it is considered by many to be the most suitable version for pre-Quadra Macintoshes. A/UX 2.0.1 runs on top of System 6.0.7. Both floppy drives have had their eject mechanisms serviced. The second gears in both gearboxes (which are prone to crumbling), have been replaced with brand new ones. Additionally, the gears have been re-lubricated to reduce stress on the eject motors. The computer's RTC batteries have been also replaced with a removable 4xAA battery holder, allowing for easy future replacement. Important Note: This computer's video card (Macintosh II Video card) does not work with the majority of modern LCD monitors. It requires a display that supports 67Hz refresh at 640x480. It is designed to work with the 13" AppleColor High-Resolution Monitor, though select Macintosh monitors and early LCDs may also work.
