Description: This card was created by the late Bob Lemke, Editor of the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. This is not one of the cards Bob made on his home printer. He ordered a few professionally printed versions of his most popular custom cards, including this one. There are some dealers selling home made copies of Lemke's work - this is not one of them. One printing of 100 cards were printed on a printing press in 2012 under Bob Lemke's authorization and for him to mail to his fans. Here is what Bob said on his blog in when he created this card: "I chose Charley Pride as the subject, but there aren't a lot of pictures out there of Pride in his playing days. The back was the real challenge. Because Pride played for such low-level minor league teams in 1953, there were few official stats to report. I tried to channel what the card creators would have done in such a case, and the results are what they are. I did have fun doing the cartoons. I scoured the backs of the 50-60 or so original 1954s that I have to find cartoons that could be converted to tell Pride's story. I'm pleased with the result. " I knew Bob for about 35 years, and regarded him as the greatest authority on baseball cards. When I had a question, he was my "go to" guy starting in the 80s when I owned a card shop. He is greatly missed by everyone in the hobby. Guaranteed book value: This card will always be worth more than you paid. The minimum "book value" is the price above. I will buy this card back from you for what you paid any time you ask. Next week, next year, or ten years from now. I can do this only because I know that this card is worth more than I am selling it for. About Grouchy: 21 years selling cards online. Before that, owner of Space City Cards Comics & Coins on Main St. in Houston. As a kid I loved baseball and football, and collected cards starting in 1959 - that's 60 years, but it feels like yesterday. I have bought and sold millions of sports cards over the years. The kids who used to frequent my card shop named me the "Grouchy Old Man" because I had to keep them in line. The nickname stuck. I'm not that grouchy anymore. I have over 100,000 online transactions, with an average feedback score of 100% over the years. COMBINED SHIPPING DISCOUNT Shipping is combined automatically in your cart.
