Description: This absolutely lovely plate was made by ‘M-Z Austria’ under the ownership of Moritz Zdekauer in Austria, some time between 1884 and 1909. This delicate hand painted plate is signed. The front shows lovely lavender daises and buds on a green stem. The background is mottled pale blue and pink. The plate has a gold rim which is in very good condition. The overall condition is very good to excellent, There are three hallmarks on the back. Two are printed and one is stamped. (see picture) All 3 are in very good condition. The plate's ‘M-Z Austria’ mark indicates the plate was made by Moritz Zdekauer in Austria. The second mark, ‘Hand Painted over Cains Studio over French Decororazione‘ indicates that Cains Studio France (who also painted for Limoges) produced the hand painted plate and is marked, “signed by‘Tosh’. The third mark, a stamped mark, is the production number. Porcelains were made at the Altrohlau, Austria, works from 1884-1909. Since 1909, the company has changed hands but kept the M-Z trademark because it was so well recognized. The company is still in operation and goes under the name Starorolsky Porcelain Moritz Zdekauer. The plate production technique is art pottery, and is 6 1/16” in diameter and weighs 5 to 6 ounces. The plate is in very good to excellent overall condition, especially considering its age. There are no chips or cracks or crazing. The hand painting is in excellent condition as is the gold gilt rim, with little, if any, age-appropriate wear. Vintage items are seldom perfect. Small scratches, scuffs, nicks, and dents are not only expected but considered desirable as a testament to age. None of which apply here. This is a great item for collectors and enthusiasts of antique porcelain plates. Care instructions recommend hand wash only to preserve the originality of this bone china plate.
