Griffin, Smith & Hill ETRUSCAN Majolica SUNFLOWER Pewter Top Syrup Pitcher

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely antique Griffin, Smith & Hill American ETRUSCAN Sunflower pattern lidded syrup pitcher, c. 1879-89. The pitcher is decorated with a large sunflower on both the front and back with a lavender-pink pebble textured background. Two narrow side panels dividing the front and back designs are painted brown as are the ribbed band around the neck, the paneled lower base and the handle. The pewter top has an engraved decorative band around the collar and opens at thumb-hold. Pitcher is marked with the Griffin, Smith & Hill incised Etruscan stamp used from 1879-1889. Also marked "E 23" and "N". This syrup pitcher is illustrated in blue on page 63 of the book "Majolica Pottery" First Edition by Mariann K. Marks. It is also illustrated on page 52 of the book "Majolica" by Mike Schneider.Measures 8 1/2" high, 4 1/4" wide (at widest part above base) with the opening being 2 1/8". Weighs 1.1 pounds. Syrup pitcher is in excellent Estate condition including the pewter top. There is one color/glaze skip on the flat part of the bottom from production. It's difficult to find these syrup pitchers with vivid colors in excellent condition especially the pewter lids which generally deteriorate with use, however, this one has it all.
