Maple is the heaviest, cherry next with walnut being the lightest weight. You are purchasing a double sided set of playing hammers; hard surface on one side, leather covered surface on the other. These hammers are suitable for instruments with 7/8" or wider string spacings. The curvature of the striking surface is slight flatter than my H1s. I use a variety of woods for the handles. All hammers are 8 1/2" long. I build a whole range of musical instruments and accessories.
