Description: This totally adorable red velvet cloche is in excellent condition. It's a bit snug on my 6 3/4 man's hat size head, so I'm calling it small. There is a complicated relationship between Mr. John and John Frederics. So the best of my knowledge, Mr. John and Mr. John Frederics were partners in a millinery company that started in Europe in the early 20th century then moved to New York in the 30s. But my understanding is limited to hearsay of "back in the day" when Mr. John hats got all the attention. The label in this hat looks a lot like a Mr. John label. What can say is what's on the label, and that this is a fabulous "pret-a- porter" quality hat made of sumptuous thick red velvet with black silk faille trim, and that it was purchased at the LS Ayres department store in Indianapolis sometime in the 1960s.
