LISTING 400 PHOTOS STARTING ON 7/26/23 Bernard "Bill" William House Sr.1911 ~ 2008Bill died peacefully at his home with his family present, after a long, full, active life. Bernard William House was born at home, 521 Colorado St., Salt Lake City, Utah December 4, 1911 to William H. and Matilda Sehy House. Bill married Naomi Aplin. They were married 65 years before she passed Dec. 2004.They had two children, William Wilcox House and Michelle Carder. Bernie House (deceased) and Marianne Johnstone are children of a former marriage. There are 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his only sibling, brother, Vincent, his wife, and two grandsons.Bill had a variety of jobs. He had several shoe shine/magazine shops, worked as a cook at the Hill Field Firehouse, worked in war surplus ZCMI Wholesale, Mr. Paperback, post cards, souvenirs, message in a bottle etc. He was a salesman for Les Olsen Company as the first "Dial-a-phone" salesman. He worked for Lifetime China, sales for 25 years, and United Laboratories. He was a salesman until age 87.His favorite Christmas pastime was visiting children as Santa for over 50 years, making home calls on families for generations.Has always had an interest in magic. He will be remembered for his magic cup that got water out of grandchildren's ears, elbows, etc., a special Grandpa House treat. He loved reading, movies, eating out, and traveling. Bill sent thousands of cards to friends and family over the years. Loving family members were with him at the end. He was a very special person who will be missed and remembered with great love and lots of wonderful memories.A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East. A vigil service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Committal, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive. Bernie House passed away with family near him, after a long and struggling illness. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Bernard William House Sr. and Jessie Mitchell Harwood. He was raised in Salt Lake City as a Catholic. He attened Forest Dale Elementary , Judge Memo, and West High. Bernie served in the US Navy for 3.5 years as a first Class Seaman during the Korean War. Bernie was very ambitious and always had a job. He worked for Behner Block, Beehive Clothing and Deseret Book Warehouse. Hemarried Clara Najar and they had five children Rose (John) Barber, Mickey (Debbie) House, Jessie Hernandez, Richard (Dawn) House and Lisa (Glen) House; along with 21grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Survived byBrothers and sisters, Marianne Johnstone, Hiram Smith, Penny Smith, Bill House, Michelle Carder,Elywyn Taylor and Arlyn Taylor. Preceded in death by mother Jessie taylor stepfather Eldon Taylor; stepmother Naomi House; granddaughter Rachel House; great granddaughter, AlexisHernandez. He was a loving friend to everyone. Enjoyed the Taylorsville Senior Citizen Center, helping in the kitchen and the big screen TV. He loved computers, sight-seeing, and family. A special to Holladay Health Care and the VA Hospitol. A graveside service was held Friday, January 7,2005, 1100 a.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Redwood Road, Bluffdale, Utah.Many friends called Thursday January 6, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.
