Description: This is an Estate Fresh old piece of Santa Clara pottery from a local Estate home and long time collector of Native American Pottery. This piece is a SCARCE OLD MINNIE VIGIL of SANTA CLARA PUEBLO BLACK POTTERY BEAR PAW PRINT POT 5". It comes in nice condition albeit with a tight hairline as described above and pictured. This piece is 4.5" tall x 5.25" in diameter. Its a scarce still sweet pot!! Other pieces just like this one sans crack are bringing 350-600. Still worth of collecting based on who made this. Born The first child of Petra Montoya of Pojoaque and Juan Gutierrez of Santa Clara, Maria D. Minnie Vigil was born in 1931. Minnie Vigil is one of a family of talented potters, her being The oldest sister of Gloria (Goldenrod) Garcia, Thelma Talachy and Lois Gutierrez de la Cruz, Minnie grew up learning the fundamentals of the traditional way of making pottery from their mother. She began making pottery for the marketplace in 1955 and won her first award at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1975 and has since won numerous awards at Santa Fe Indian Market for years in recognition of her fine workmanship. Her work is illustrated in nearly every book describing Santa Clara potters. In 1985 her pottery was exhibited in New York City at the Sid Deusch Gallery along with pottery by Margaret Tafoya. Minnie specialized in Black Polished pots, polychrome wares, some slipped in red clay and stone polished, some slipped in matte tan clay and not polished. Her favorite designs were rainbows, rain clouds, bear paws and sky bands.
