It contains all non-error issued TRANSPORTATION coils from 1897 to 1908. This is the FIRST series, which was issued between 1981 and 1991. The set offered here includes all of the Scott major numbers and non-error minor number listings including precancels. Scott 1907 Surrey was the very first Transportation coil issued in this huge set that now has over 100 total varieties. The keys to this first set are all 3 precancel overprint varieties of the 17c Electric Auto. They are Bureau styles 5-A, 5-B, and 5-C respectively. The precancel type is determined by measuring (in millimeters) the approximate length of the word "PRESORTED" shown with red arrows above. The overprints were added using various flexible mats that stretched or were manufactured imprecisely causing differences in this measure. Type C overprints exist in lengths from about 13.5 mm to over 14 mm. In some cases we use Brookman minor numbers like "v" or "ac", which are technically not Scott numbers but help to identify. The varieties can be complicated to assemble but we guarantee accurate identification. Many of these beautiful coils have very fine centering. There is a 30% premium for VF but we offer better quality at our regular low price!
