WAR OF 1812-DATED PARTIAL AUTOGRAPH DOCUMENT SIGNED BY, “THOMAS JEFFERSON,” WITH HIS RARE FULL SIGNATURE AND 32 WORDS IN HIS HAND DESCRIBING A HOSTILE ACT THAT TOOK PLACE ON HIS LAND NEAR CHARLOTTESVILLE War of 1812-dated partial autograph document signed by, “Thomas Jefferson,” with his rare full signature and 32 words in his hand describing a hostile act that took place on his land along the Rivanna River near Charlottesville: “lying & being in the s[ai]d parish of St. Anne; & county aforesaid, with force & arms did enter, & him the s[ai]d Thomas Jefferson thereof with strong hand did disservice & put out.” Although the British burned down the US Capitol that contained Jefferson’s library in Washington, DC in 1814, there is no record of an attack or invasion at Monticello or on Jefferson’s lands during the War of 1812. “LYING & BEING IN THE S[AI]D PARISH OF ST. ANNE; & COUNTY AFORESAID, WITH FORCE & ARMS DID ENTER, & HIM THE S[AI]D THOMAS JEFFERSON THEREOF WITH STRONG HAND DID DISSERVICE & PUT OUT.” The document is contains Jefferson’s rare full signature, one page, measures 7.75” by 0.75”, originally attached to a document that was created on July 30, 1812, and in fine condition with professional repairs along the borders.
