German bisque porcelain figure by Volkstedt Factory: Rudolstadt, Thuringia, Germany, circa 1760's.Volkstedt was the first porcelain factory in this area and used "crossed pitchforks" as its mark in 1760.Then blue "crossed hay-forks" symbol was used from 1762 to 1787- Marked under glaze-not stamped later.The numbers on the base [under tape] 287 and 21 believed to be artist/model (or vice versa) of this piece.This factory earned many gold medals as have other later factories in this area. Figure: approx. 10" tall, 4" wide, 4" deep. Showing various lighting on all white piece.Excellent condition for age: antique status. Close-up pictures intended to show 2 fingers on right hand:index finger with end broken off & little finger with missing tip.Hat has two small chips on front brim? so evenly spaced as to be intentional. Specks of dirt(?) in one area. It has not been touched or changed by us. But, it is, after all, around 260 years old! Photos are part of the description; please check carefully! We researched the piece but cannot find this piece to verify information other than marks on bottom that match other figurinesfrom same factory. The words pitchfork & hayfork are sometimes used interchangeably but are slightly different tools in reality.
